The 8 things to consider before designing a website

No matter the size of your business or its line, in today’s internet savvy world every business needs a good website. Content of a website is vital. But a good design can also do a lot for a professional website. There are some important points to consider before implementing  your website designing ideas.

1- Know your objective

The starting point is to define the  goals you want your website to achieve. Always be clear about what you want to do. Do you want to give information or you want to sell your products and services to your customers?

2- Know your target Audience

You have to ask yourself who are your future customers. Try to know what they want and who they are so that the designing is done keeping them in mind. No one comes to your website for fun they always have a purpose like buying or getting information. Being attractive to you target audience is essential for getting traffic on your website and improving sales.

3- Visualize your site

It is very important for you to be able to figure out what you want your website to look like. You need to tell your Web Designer what you want. So the website can be designed to serve your business needs, but also tailored to what you like or foresee.

4- Make a rough design on paper

Once you know what your site wants to achieve, who your visitors will be and what look and feel you would like, it is time to start planning the site structure. But do not start straight away  with the site map. It is too restrictive. Start by sketching out your site. And yes old school pencils and erasers to make quick and easy changes work like a charm!

5- Get to your designing software

When you have put things down together, you can start using a designing software, or hand out your preparation work to a designer. The designing software helps you understand how your visitors will arrive to your site and their navigation once they arrive and explore your website.

6- Decide on website navigation

You need to know what pages will be on your website how they should be grouped and how your visitors can easily find their way through your website to get what they want. Your site map should be such that it can effectively merge all the views from your initial free sketches into a structure that is clear and economical.

7- Decide on the actual look

Your website layout must portray your company’s personality well. And it also has to be clean and clear. It is important that you let your visitors move freely on your website and do actions that you want them to.  May be your sketch is too simple but it will help you get things clear and in the line for sure. Check, out the overall page structure and proportions, navigation, graphic elements etc.

8- Get visitors Attention

Make sure everything on your website is special. All the pages should be noticeable. The visual elements, colors, contrast and white space should be put in the right place and in the right proportion. Beyond navigation and features, look and feel also contributes to making user friendly websites.
