Web Production, fast and easy
A lot (!) of Twitter users treat the social network as a channel to distribute their news and marketing messages. What they don’t understand, is that a social network is for interaction, not broadcasting.
Enter the Twit Cleaner (first seen on SitePoint). The service uses a number of criteria to evaluate the Twitter users you follow, and lets you decide whether to unfollow them.
The Twit Cleaner shows you who hasn’t been active on Twitter (some people for over a year) – why would you keep following them? They evaluate who is considered a spammer, and who only automates their updates from some other service (like their blog).
If you follow tens or hundreds of people post nothing but links, your Twitter stream can easily get bogged down with irrelevant content. Twit Cleaner identifies the link spammers, and lets you unfollow them.
Of course, there may be some accounts you’ll want to follow, to get the latest updates, but then you probably know who they are. The one thing missing from the Twit Cleaner service, is a way to see their latest tweets. That would make it easier to decide whether to unfollow a person, or not.
Try out the Twit Cleaner and see if it works for you.
