CalleHunefalk.com is here to help take small business into the future of digital business.

There’s no reason to keep spamming people with sales messages. Instead, we’re giving away advice and knowledge, and are happy and grateful for all those that decide to buy.

We’ve updated and simplified the look of this site. We will also refocus the content – it will include helpful articles and more philosophical discussions about digital business.

CalleHunefalk.comon

Of course, we’re on, trying out the service. It turns out, that for a business to add people in circles, people have to add them first. (hint, hint)

Here are a few other points about Google Plus Pages, that we have dug up:

Pages can be made for a variety of different entities whereas profiles can only be made for people.

The default privacy setting for elements on Google+ Pages is public.

Pages cannot share to ‘Extended circles’.

Although Pages have the +1 button, they can’t +1 other pages, nor can they +1 stuff on the Web.

Pages don’t receive notifications via email, text, or in the Google bar.

Pages can’t hangout on a mobile device. We’re hoping for this feature to come, since we use Google+ Hangouts a lot.

Local pages have special fields that help people find the business’ physical location.

Want to know more? Ask us, we’ll help you get your business on Google+.

No time to design and implement a heavy marketing strategy? Here are 2 tips you can implement immediately as a mini marketing strategy.

1. Sponsor conversations on Social Media
Don’t underestimate the power of social media. Monitor what people are saying about your brand or industry and use it as an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions. Also, share your content on your social channels.

Here is a piece of advice from Kevin Roddy, chief creative officer, Publicis & Hal Riney:
“People today love to talk and express their opinions. Blogs, chat rooms, comment sections are filled with loads of people expressing themselves. This, if you play your cards right, can be a great opportunity for your product or brand. Why not offer up topics for people to discuss? And make them topics that relate to your marketing efforts. Use Facebook or blog comments to start a relevant conversation where, at some point, your product can play a role. Be careful, however, not to appear to be ‘selling.’ Generate a conversation that is authentic to the topic, and that your brand can become a part of as opposed to a conversation that is about your product. People will happily talk about things that are interesting to them, and brands are not interesting. So make your brand a byproduct of the conversation, not the topic itself.”

2. Revisit old leads.
Did you know only 10 percent of leads are ready to buy now? What about the warm and cold leads? More often than not, they get lost in the shuffle and are eventually forgotten forever. Many small businesses would love to follow-up on every lead, but with limited resources, that can be a challenge. So, the goal is to close the leads that are hot now in order to drive immediate sales and to have a nurturing system in place for not-ready-to-buy-yet leads.

“One thing to do would be to recontact people that you’ve spoken to that have for whatever reason, in a friendly way, turned you down in the past. Revisit those people. If people have called you to inquire about your product or service but have not bought from you, it’s always good to call those people back and re-pitch them. They’ve already expressed interest in you, they may or may not have been in research mode when they called. It’s a fruitful, no-cost list. You don’t have to spend money to get that list. You know they’re interested in your product.” —Dan Feldstein, cofounder and chief marketing officer, Red Ventures

There are lots of tips and tricks circling the blogosphere about how to become king of your niche and rich and famous. It seems like the predominant attitude of bloggers and their readers, but we have a different philosophy.

Believe it or not, we are not in this business to get rich, or famous. Fame and riches are both temporary and relative to each person’s set of values – instead, we’re striving towards other goals.

The Core Value set is dynamic, but firm

The core values of people working with CalleHunefalk.com are not written in stone, but are part of the ongoing process to reach a common understanding. The core values are not communicated from the top down – instead every person involved in the company provides input for evolving the core values.

That’s not to say that the values of the company are fuzzy or that we take them lightly – or that they change frequently. It’s to say that the path to defining the core values is more important than having a written document about it.

A better world through digital channels

The world is going through a digital (r)evolution that is moving so fast that it’s hard to keep up – many small businesses are being left behind, because they lack the knowledge and resources to keep up. Along with the potential of digital tools come pitfalls and risks – business as usual is no longer possible.

We try to bridge the gap for small businesses by providing tools and teaching about how to use new technology. By giving away a lot of knowledge, and always being friendly towards all customers, co-workers and competitors, we are striving to make the world a place where everyone is on equal terms.

We also include a lot of people in Third Worlds countries in our projects, to promote generous thinking and support business in those regions.

The objective is to become superfluous

For the clients we work with, we want to instill so much know-how, that our help will be superfluous in the future. We are a community with a united goal; to make the digital channels (the web, mobile, and so on) work seamlessly in business.

We also encourage our clients to help others with their knowledge and skills, to always extend a helping hand to others. By helping each other, we will make this world a better place to live.

Agree or disagree

Many view the world differently than we do. Lots of people are working for individual recognition – in the past, we have as well, so we know that path. People sticking to the competitive mindset of individual quest for fame may disagree with our values, and possibly try to take advantage of them. They may find out that such behavior is self-defeating, or they will continue in their tracks – to make our community a thriving one, we do not include these individualists in our community, be they customer, co-worker or competitor.

Life is great

Life is wonderful, and we have a lot of fun together. We can do lots of amazing stuff together – much more than we could if we were trying to do them alone.

Our Core Values

Our business is about having fun together in helping other businesses in digital channels. We want to teach people and encourage them to help others. We will help you out if you help someone else, in turn.

If your own values match ours, why not join us? We work together with customers, co-workers and competitors on a lot of fun projects!

We could use your help!

This is a guest blog post by Dave Gruen.

When you strip all of the fancy marketing terms away, the bottom line for creating and maintaining
a website is to increase sales. Whether that is through brand awareness, creating leads, cultivating
relationships, increasing conversions or actual product/service sales, your website needs to be seen for
what it is, a marketing tool. Check out the following tips to make your website more effective in selling.

1. Attractive, Professional Design

How many times have you opened a website and closed it within a few seconds because it looked as if it
was created in 1994? Poor, unprofessional designs will deter potential customers. Your website should
be professionally designed and included as part of your marketing communications. You’ve invested
time into creating a brand that your target market recognizes and trusts; use it as you design and update
your website.

2. Simple Navigation

Another reason people often leave websites is because of poor navigation. Not knowing how to
find what you are looking for is frustrating and will hinder potential sales rather than secure them.
Navigation should be easy to follow and straight-forward. The next tip can also assist with creating a
solid navigation.

3. Effective Content

Using a professional writer to develop your website content and navigation is a great investment.
There is a certain finesse used in writing that will increase conversions from prospects to customers.
Combining this finesse with an understanding of how to increase your search engine ranking can greatly
increase the effectiveness of your website.

4. Call to Action

Call to actions are essential in any marketing promotion, especially websites. Think of your call to action
as an invitation to move closer to purchasing a product. If you want to see an increase in sales, include
quality call to actions on your site (“Call Now”, a simple form, contact us now, “Free Quote”, etc.). For
more on call to actions, click here.

5. Simple and Clear Process

Require only the information necessary to move your visitors to the next step in your sales process; they
will be more likely to act if the process is simple and clear.

Implement these five tips and watch your website start selling for you.

Dave Gruen leads the consulting division for BolderImage, a full-service web marketing and mobile development agency with offices near Chicago.

Hacking is a threat to websites and their owners – and it affects both big and small. Here are a few tips and explanations on hacking and how you can protect your website.

Whether from high profile hacktivists like Anonymous or a high school kid who’s just curious, your website is likely to receive hacking attempts on a regular basis. The more traffic your site has, the higher the risk. But sites with little or even no traffic are targets as well.

What is hacking?

For the purpose of this article, hacking is the intrusion into a system (your server or web hosting). A hacker tries to gain access to the system for one purpose or another.

What is the purpose of hacking?

Breaking into a website can have many purposes. Most hackers do it ‘just because they can’, but reasons vary beyond that.

One strategy for hackers is to break into a number of websites and place scripts that – when activated – can attack a single site or service. The hacked sites are used in Denial-of-service attacks, for example.

Stealing sensitive information for selling (for criminal use) – like credit card information.

Gaining access to site members’ passwords, and access codes to various accounts on the Internet (like someone’s Facebook account or e-mail account). A lot of people use the same password multiple places, like their blog, social media accounts and their e-mail. Don’t be one of them – keep your passwords unique!

Spying on someone – a person or business by getting access to information that is intended to be private or protected.

Raising awareness of social issues – hacktivism – such as the recent activities by Anonymous (see What Are We Capable Of and The Plan)

There are a number of other purposes – such as simple curiosity – probably as many as there are hackers out there.

The common threats

This is a short list of threats that your website faces – most likely without you ever noticing, unless you either monitor attempts to attack your website, or the site is successfully hacked and brought down or changed in some way.

Attacking defaults – a lot of software has defaults for usernames and passwords and other settings, that remain unless they are changed. For example, the default administrator username in WordPress is admin. By knowing that, a hacker can run a script to automatically test thousands of password combinations with the admin username. The same is true for everything from the wireless router in your home to the printer in your office.

SQL Injection – a technical term for breaking into a database and add, delete or edit information. Most websites that allow users to edit the site through a CMS (like WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, and others) use a database to save the information (like text on the pages). Using the SQL Injection technique, hackers can gain access to all of the information in the database and change it (for example to lock you out as a user).

Unpatched software exploitation – attacking vulnerabilities in software that has not been updated with the latest security patches. From time to time, security ‘holes’ or vulnerabilities are discovered in software, such as the CMS that is running your website. When they are discovered, they are patched, and an update of the software is released. With open source software (including WordPress), the vulnerabilities are also made public, letting hackers see what they are and use them on sites that are not updated.

Social engineering – manipulating people into giving out sensitive information. People are very trusting in general, and get exploited in social contexts to part with their personal information. It doesn’t have to be your password, but if you use your dog’s or child’s name in you passwords, telling other people will give them a clue to break it. Or look at your Facebook profile – does your password contain any information that can be found on there?

How to protect your website

Here is a (non-exhaustive) list of things you can do to improve the security of your website.

Change the username and password of your CMS and any other login details from the default on your website.

Keep your password secure. To see how strong passwords are, use tools to test them. However, never use your real password in a password testing service – you can never be too paranoid about security! Password meter or How Secure Is My Password can help you out.

Use security checker tools. Plugins and extensions that test security are available for most CMS’es.

Limit the number of login attempts allowed. By setting a limit and locking out failed attempts, you can avoid the possibility of hackers trying thousands of passwords to login to your website.

Where possible, use SSL certificates where you access restricted areas of your website. SSL certificated encrypt your connection to the server, so third parties cannot see the information you send.

Be careful with the information you share on social networks like Facebook, Twitter or Google+.

Frequently change your passwords.

Schedule frequent backups to your website. For most popular CMS’es, there are plugins that can do the work for you, backing up your site and even sending it to you via e-mail or to your Dropbox account.

There are more updates you can make to your website than listed here, but keeping these things in mind will make your online presence a bit more secure, hopefully.

We are all about renewal and change, and we like to shake things up sometimes, so we don’t get stuck in old patterns. Even though we generously got a logo along with the new redesign of CalleHunefalk.com, we’ve been asking ourselves if we could match our company culture better with a new one.

What is CalleHunefalk.com about?

We – a number of globally based web pros – help small businesses with the web. Essentially, we deliver quality work, quickly. Each of us can vouch for that we treat customers, contractors and competitors alike with respect, and we help others whenever we can.

A Fiverr for a logo

If you haven’t tried Fiverr, here’s a tip: for only five US dollars ($5), you can get someone to help you with one of a thousand things. Like getting five logos for five bucks – that’s what we ordered, and the designer was kind enough to give us 6. Check out the gig

So now we have six logos to choose from – what do you think, would any of them fit the company better than the one at the top of this site?

Suggestion 1

Suggestion 2

Suggestion 3

Suggestion 4

Suggestion 5

Suggestion 6

Please comment – does one of these fit well for a global, fast-paced and quality-oriented business?
